The Block on Main anchored one end of Main Street while Town Hall Commons established a promising spread of local small businesses and shops, but between both large establishments a new passion was peaking at 100 East Ballentine Street.

Wine 100 is at the intersection of the heart of the Village District, but their owner Joe Sherrier and his wife Laura opened this shop to be the heart of community.

“Holly Springs was starting to open several retail locations in its downtown area, but visitors would often just grab a bite or make a purchase and head out. I wanted a place where people would shop & gather with their neighbors.”

The Village District of Holly Springs has taken an approach to activating its vision for a vibrant downtown by collaborating consistently with local residents, developers and small business entrepreneurs. The town seeks to have a curated village district that hosts unique spaces while remembering the past of Holly Springs and recognizing its current community.

Joe, and his vision for Wine 100 is not only to have a shop to visit, but an experience that strongly aligns with the outcomes that the town of Holly Springs was seeking.

As a resident for just five years, Joe’s heart is to weave Wine 100 into being part of the “fabric of the town.”  When I asked Joe, what he has enjoyed the most since opening, he shared, “It’s energizing to come to work and to hear the stories from residents of times past or events in the area. I enjoy it because it is what I was aiming for Wine 100 to facilitate. I wanted people to shop here for wine, but I am passionate about people gathering here as a community.”

Part of the stories that come to life at Wine 100 are stories not just about the location of his shop or the events surrounding it in times past, but of the music he pairs with wine. “Wine and food pairing is a science and art that many are well aware of. At Wine 100, we elevate it to an experience by pairing wine with music.”

Joe has an excellent taste for music and recognizes the emotional resonance that music has in all people including the way it brings people together to “share a story”, a song or album or artist intersected with their life. “It’s moving to hear,” shared Joe. This sort of experience is what Wine 100 is facilitating.

With more than 800 varieties and options, Wine 100 additionally hosts several regular events. With the addition of their new patio area, they have expanded with many fireside and outdoor experiences when weather permits. Most Saturdays they have complimentary wine tasting where they partner with suppliers to bring a rich tapestry to your tongue. Joe pairs these events with occasional live music, book club meetings, social gatherings as well as hosting events to support local community-led organizations and charities. Shop Manager Bob Kaufmann adds his 40+ years of curating an excellent selection of wines and beers to make the Wine 100 experience complete.

Joe, like many successful small business entrepreneurs in our Village District, connected a passion with a purpose and aimed for a vision. He imagined a new possible chapter in his own life where he could lean into our budding community, and then, he stepped forward when the opportunity for the space became available. Joe will be the first to tell you about all the people and support he has received, and Downtown Alive is excited to amplify his success and the experience he aims to cultivate.

Downtown Alive Holly Springs loves to amplify these stories because it is a testimony that our community both new comers and long established residents are nurturing how it is growing, shaping, and coming together.

We encourage you to stop by Wine 100 to meet Joe and his team, to taste some wine, share a story, and let the memories music recalls resonate something special. Come downtown today stop in at Wine 100, walk around the Village District to shop, to gather, and to connect with your community.
